I am directed to refer to the minutes on Point No. 4 of the Modvat Meeting held at Hyderabad on 12-7-1990 regarding Modvat Credit on Dry Battery Cells used in the manufacture of electronic quartz clocks. Trade had represented therein that since the value of the Dry Battery Cells was included in the quartz clocks, it should be eligible as input for purposes of Modvat Credit. The matter has been re-examined by the Board. It is observed that Board's instructions issued Circular No. 57/89-CX-8, dated 29-12-1989 treating battery cells as inadmissible for purposes of Modvat Credit are correct and require no change. It has therefore been decided to reiterate Board's aforesaid instructions dated 29-12-1989. Trade field formations may be informed suitably. Receipt of this letter may please be acknowledged.
