INSTRUCTION NO. 470/CBDT October 28, 1972 Section(s) Referred: 56 Statute: Income - Tax Act, 1961 The Board has considered the question of the assessment of Political Pensions. These pensions, even though called 'pensions' are unlike other pensions not assessable under the head 'Salaries' because there is no employer-employee relationship between these pensioners and the Government. Political pensions will thus be assessable under the head 'Other Sources'. These instructions may be brought to the notice of the assessing officers in your charge.
