Income-tax Officers to pay due attention to the requests made by the assessees. - Income Tax - 1136/CBDTExtract INSTRUCTION NO. 1136/CBDT Dated : January 9, 1978 The Board has been receiving, from time to time, complaints and representations from different assessees and representative associations that the Income-tax Officers do not send any reply to assessees in response to their letters carrying requests for adjustment of tax paid, rectification of mistakes or for grant of refund etc. This causes considerable hardship to the assessees as they are not aware whether any action has been taken on this request. 2. The Board, therefore, desire that instructions may be issued to Income-tax Officers to pay due attention to the requests made by the assessees in their letters and inform them of the action taken in the matter. Where immediate action cannot be taken for some reasons on the requests of the assessees, they should be informed that necessary action in the matter will be taken in due course.
