Effective rate of additional duty on synthetic fabrics

Notification No. 57/89-C.E.

Dated 1-3-1989

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 5A of the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), read with sub-section (3) of section 3 of the Additional Duties of Excise (Goods of Special Importance) Act, 1957 (58 of 1957), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby directs that each of the notifications of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue), specified in column (2) of the Table hereto annexed shall be amended or further amended, as the case may be, in the manner specified in the corresponding entry in column (3) of the said Table.

1.	157/83-Central Excises, dated the 21st May, 1983.	In the said notification,- (a) for the figures and words "Rs. 4.00 per kg." the figures and words "Rs. 4.20 per kg." shall be substituted; and
		(b) for the figures and words "Rs. 2.00 per kg." the figures and words "Rs. 2.10 per kg." shall be substituted.
2.	274/86-Central Excises, dated the 24th April, 1986.	In the said notification,- (i) in the opening paragraph, after the figures and words "1.3 square metres," the words "and chindies," shall be inserted;
		(ii) in the proviso, after the words "sub-standard textile fabrics", the words, "or chindies" shall be inserted; and
		(iii) after the proviso, the following Explanation shall be inserted, namely,-
		"Explanation.- For the purposes of this notification, "chindies" means normal cut-pieces of fabrics which are 23 centimetres or less in length including remnants of cut-pieces of fabrics, damaged or otherwise deficient in standard.
3.	64/87-Central Excises, dated the 1st March, 1987.	In the Table annexed to the said notification,- (a) against Sl. No. 01, in column (3), for the word and figure "Rs. 2", the word and figures "Rs. 2.10" shall be substituted; and
		(b) against Sl. No. 02, in column (3), for the word and figure "Rs. 2.50", the word and figures "Rs. 2.63" shall be substituted.
4.	254/87-Central Excises, dated the 25th November, 1987.	In the Table annexed to the said notification, in column (3),- (a) for the words and figures, "Rs. 2.00 per square metre", wherever they occur, the words and figures "Rs. 2.10 per square metre" shall be substituted;
		(b) for the words and figures, "Rs. 3.50 per square metre", wherever they occur, the words and figures "Rs. 3.70 per square metre" shall be substituted;
		(c) for the words and figures, "Rs. 5.00 per square metre", in both the places where they occur, the words and figures "Rs. 5.25 per square metre" shall be substituted;
		(d) for the words and figures, "Rs. 1.25 per square metre", the words and figures "Rs. 1.30 per square metre" shall be substituted;
		(e) for the words and figures, "Rs. 8.00 per square metre", the words and figures "Rs. 8.40 per square metre" shall be substituted;
		(f) for the words and figures, "Rs. 10.00 per square metre", the words and figures "Rs. 10.50 per square metre" shall be substituted;
		(g) for the words and figures, "Rs. 20.00 per square metre", the words and figures "Rs. 21.00 per square metre" shall be substituted; and
		(h) for the words and figures, "Rs. 30.00 per square metre", the words and figures "Rs. 31.50 per square metre" shall be substituted.
5.	261/87-Central Excises, dated the 9th December, 1987.	In the said notification, for the figures and word "50 paise" the figures and word "53 paise" shall be substituted.
6.	2/88-Central Excises, dated the 19th January, 1988.	In the Table annexed to the said notification, in column (3), for the figures and words "50 paise per square metre" and "Rs. 1.25 per square metre", the words and figures "53 paise per square metre" and "Rs. 1.30 per square metre" shall, respectively, be substituted.
7.	4/88-Central Excises, dated the 19th January, 1988.	In the Table annexed to the said notification, in column (3), for the words and figures, "75 paise per square metre" and "Rs. 1.25 per square metre" in both the places where they occur, the words and figures, "79 paise per square metre" and "Rs. 1.30 per square metre" shall, respectively, be substituted.
