Exemption to television sets

Notification No. 77/87-C.E.

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of rule 8 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, the Central Government hereby makes the following further amendments in the notifi­cation of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No. 68/86-Central Excises, dated the 10th February, 1986, namely :-

In the said notification, -

(1) In the Table, -

(i)  for Serial No. 19 and the entries relating thereto, the following Serial No. and entries shall be substituted, namely :-

"19.	85.28	Broadcast television receiver sets (other than monochrome sets) of screen size exceeding 36 centimetres and of a value,-
		(i) not exceeding Rs. 5,000 per set.		Rupees 1500.00 per set.	-
		(ii) exceeding Rs. 5,000 per set.		Rupees 1750.00 per set.".	-

(ii) Serial No. 22 and the entries relating thereto, shall be omitted; and

(2) the following Explanation shall be inserted at the end, namely :-

"Explanation. -In this notification, the expression "value" referred to in Serial No. 19 of the Table means the value as determined in accordance with the provisions of section 4 of the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944 (1 of 1944).".
