C.E. (10th Amendment) Rules, 1986

Dated 14-4-1986

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 of the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Excise Rules, 1944, namely :—

1. (1) These rules may be called the Central Excise (10th Amendment) Rules, 1986.

(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

2. In the Central Excise Rules, 1944, after rule 209, the following rule shall be inserted, namely :—

"209A. Penalty for certain offences.— Any person who acquires possession of, or is in any way concerned in transporting, removing, depositing, keeping, concealing or selling or purchasing, or in any other manner deals with, any excisable goods which he knows or has reason to believe are liable to confiscation under the Act or these rules, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding three times the value of such goods or five thousand rupees, whichever is greater."
