Promotion of Indigenous Hardware Industries |

The Government has taken a number of measures to promote indigenous industries in the areas of electronics hardware, solar panels and related items. The measures taken, inter-alia, include the notification of the National Policy on Electronics 2012, policy for providing preference to domestically manufactured electronic products in Government procurement, Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS), Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) scheme, scheme for Electronics Hardware Technology Parks, schemes for promotion of R & D, approval for setting up of two semiconductor wafer fabrication (FAB) manufacturing facility, etc. The Union Budget 2014-15 presented on 10th July, 2014 in the Parliament has also announced changes in customs and excise duties for the promotion of domestic manufacturing industry including electronic industry and manufacture of machinery, equipment and other inputs used for production of solar energy. The Department of Electronics and Information Technology has informed that there is no plan for a new Hardware policy. The information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today. |
