The Supreme Court allowed the appeal, stating that the respondents are not entitled to the benefits of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894. They are entitled to solatium at 15% and interest at 6% on the enhanced compensation from the date of possession till the date of deposit. The appeal was allowed without costs.
