Rule 2 - Definitions. - Companies (Electronic Filing and Authentication of Documents) Rules, 2006Extract Definitions. 02. In these rules, unless the context otherwise requres, (a) "Act" means the Companies Act, 1956 (1 of 1956); (b) "Centifying Authority" means a person who has been granted a licence to issue a Digital Signature Centificate under section 24 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (21 of 2000); (c) "digital signature" means authentication of any electronic record by a subscriber by means of an electronic method or procedure in accordance with the provisions of section 3 of the Information Technology Act, 2000; (d) "Digital Signature Certificate" means a Digital Signature Certificate issued under sub-section (4) of section 35 of the Information Technology Act, 2000; (e) "e-Form" means a form in the electronic form as prescribed under the Act or rules made thereunder and notified by the Central Government under the Act; (f) "electronic record" means electronic record as defined under clause (t) of section 2 of the Information Technology Act, 2000; (g) "electronic registry" means an electronic repository or storage system in which the information or documents are received, stored, protected and preserved in electronic form; (h) "Electronic Mail (E-mail)" means messages sent, received or forwarded in digital form via a computer-based communication mechanism; (i) "Registrar" means a registrar as defined under sub-section (40) of section 2 of the Companies Act, 1956; (j) "Registrar's Front Office" means an office maintained by the Central Government or an agency authorized by it to facilitate e-filing of documents into the electronic registry and their inspection and viewing; (k) "web" means the worldwide web, as defined in the Information Technology Act, 2000; (l) "website" means a location connected to the Internet that maintains one or more web pages; (m) words and expressions used in these rules and not defined shall have the meaning respectively assigned to them in the Companies Act, 1956 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 (21 of 2000).
