Rescinds the sector specific Special Economic Zone for Textile and Garment at village Varshamedi, Taluka Anjar, District Kutch in the State of Gujarat. - S.O. 1117(E) - Special Economic Zone

MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (Department of Commerce) NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 11 th April , 2014 S.O. 1117(E).- Whereas, M/s. Welspun Anjar SEZ Limited, a private organization in the State of Gujarat, had proposed under section 3 of the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005 (28 of 2005), (hereinafter referred to as the said Act) to set up a sector specific Special Economic Zone for Textile and Garment at village Varshamedi, Taluka Anjar, District Kutch in the State of Gujarat; And, whereas, the Central Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub- section (1) of Section 4 of the said Act read with rule 8 of the Special Economic Zone Rules 2006, had notified an area of 109.59.07 hectares vide Ministry of Commerce and Industry Notification Number S. O. 1559(E) dated 17th September, 2007; And, whereas, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 4 of the Act and in pursuance of Rule 8 of the Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006 , the Central Government had amended the Notification Number S. O. 1559(E) dated 17th September, 2007; by changing the sector from Textiles Garments to Engineering vide Notification number S.O. 662(E) dated 12th March, 2009 ; And, whereas, M/s. Welspun Anjar SEZ Limited has proposed to de-notify the entire area of 109.59.07 hectares of the above Special Economic Zone and the Central Government has granted letter of approval for de-notification of above area on 21st March, 2013; And, whereas, the State Government of Gujarat has given its No Objection to the proposal vide letter No. IC/Infra/SEZ-Cell/910101 dated 4th February, 2014; And whereas, the Development Commissioner, Kandla Special Economic Zone has recommended the proposal for de-notification of the entire area of 109.59.07 hectares of the Special Economic Zone; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by first proviso to rule 8 of the Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006 , the Central Government hereby rescinds the above notification except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such rescission.
