Tourist Baggage (Amendment) Rules, 1993 Notification No. 16/93-Cus. (N.T.) Dated 17-2-1993 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 79 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Tourist Baggage Rules, 1978, namely :- 1. (1) These rules may be called the Tourist Baggage (Amendment) Rules, 1993. (2) They shall come into force on the 17th day of February, 1993. 2. In the Tourist Baggage Rules, 1978, in rule 2, for the provisos, the following shall be substituted, namely :- "Provided that where the Assistant Collector of Customs is satisfied that it is necessary for a tourist to extend his stay beyond six months for legitimate non-immigrant purposes, the Assistant Collector may extend the period by a further period of six months: Provided further that if the Collector is so satisfied, he may extend the period by a further period of one year: Provided also that if the Board is so satisfied, it may extend the aforesaid period beyond two years.".
