Specified Sports Goods imported by a sportsperson for training purposes Notification No. 255/89-Cus. Dated 25-10-1989 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts the goods specified in the Table hereto annexed falling within the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975), when imported into India by a sportsperson of outstanding eminence for training purposes, from - (a) the whole of the duty of customs leviable thereon under the said First Schedule; and (b) the whole of the additional duty leviable thereon under Section 3 of the said Customs Tariff Act, subject to the condition that the importer produces to the Assistant Collector of Customs at the time of importation, a certificate indicating the description, quantity and value of the said goods from an officer not below the rank of a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to the effect that - (i) the importer is a sportsperson of outstanding eminence, and (ii) the said goods are essential for the training purposes of the importer and recommends the grant of the exemption.
