The Supreme Court dismissed the special leave petition, stating that interest can be awarded on equitable grounds in appropriate cases, with the rate of eighteen per cent per annum deemed reasonable. The judgment cited was Ghaziabad Development Authority vs. Union of India (2000 (6) S.C.C.113).
