The High Court of Judicature at Calcutta restrained the writ petitioner's bank accounts in Calcutta from operation, except for inward remittances. HDFC Bank provided no reason for the stoppage, but the Bank of America attached a letter mentioning Section 110 of the Customs Act. The letter, written by a Deputy Director, contained vague allegations and irresponsible use of authority by the respondents. The court granted the rule as prayed for and ordered interim measures during the Christmas vacation. The prayer for adjournment was denied, and parties were instructed to act on a xerox signed copy of the order.
