Section 21 - Change of name by company - Companies Act, 1956Extract Change of name by company [1] 21. A company may, by special resolution and with the approval of the Central Government [2] signified in writing, change its name: [3] [Provided that no such approval shall be required where the only change in the name of a company is the addition thereto or, as the case may be, the deletion therefrom, of the word "Private", consequent on the conversion in accordance with the provisions of this Act of a public company into a private company or of a private company into a public company.] --------------------------------- Notes:- [1] Vide Rule 4A of the Companies (Central Government's) General Rules and Forms, 1956 has prescribed e-Form 1A and fees of Rs. 500 have been prescribed. See also rule 4B and e-Form No. 1B of General Rules Forms. [2] The power under this section has been delegated to the Registrars of Companies vide Notification No. GSR 507(E), dated 24 June, 1985. Application to Central Government to be made in new e-Form 1B. [3] Inserted by the Companies (Amendment) Act, 1965, 31 of 1965, section 6, w.e.f. 15-10-1965.
