General conditions. 16. (1) Save as otherwise provided in these regulations, the shareholding or voting rights of any person in a recognised stock exchange or a recognised clearing corporation shall not exceed the limits specified in this Chapter at any point of time. (2) The shareholding as specified in this Chapter shall include any instrument owned or controlled, directly or indirectly, that provides for entitlement to equity or rights over equity at any future date: Provided that any equity or rights over equity, arising from such instruments in excess of limit of shareholding specified in this Chapter on the date of commencement of these regulations, shall be reduced to the specified limit within a period as may be decided by the Board, which may extend upto three years from the date of such commencement.
