Mango is the King of Fruit

Mango is really a great product to export, many of my startup students/clients start with mango export business.

UAE, CANADA, AUS [Newly opened for us], etc are great markets for startups.

As per para 2.06 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), mandatory documents required for export of goods from India are

(i) Bill of Lading/Airway Bill/ Lorry Receipt/ Railway Receipt/Postal Receipt

(ii) Commercial Invoice cum Packing List

(iii) Shipping Bill/Bill of Export.

Separate Commercial Invoice and Packing List would also be accepted. For export of specific goods or category of goods, which are subject to any restrictions/policy conditions or require NOC or product specific compliances under any statute, the regulatory authority concerned may notify additional documents for purposes of export or import. In specific cases of export or import, the regulatory authority concerned may electronically or in writing seek additional documents or information, as deemed necessary to ensure legal compliance.

In case of mangoes, you have to approach the nearest office of Export Inspection Agency and seek pre-shipment inspection certificate. The details of the offices are given in the website http://www.eicindia.gov.in. They will inspect the consignment, draw samples, test and then give the certificate. They may also need details of the orchards where the mangoes were grown.

Normally, the importer is required to ascertain the documentary requirements in his country and advise you. However, the website of APEDA gives the regulations at UAE i.e. the maximum limits of pesticide residues in agricultural and food products. You may see the links at http://apeda.gov.in/apedawebsite/HACCP/UAE_Importing_Countries_Regulation.htm. In any case, you must insist that the buyer advises his requirements clearly.

As an organisation that has a mandate to promote exports, APEDA usually is quite responsive. You may contact them over phone and talk to the concerned person for the information that you want. The website apeda.gov.in gives the details.
