ITC(HS) Code Compulsory on Shipping Bills GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COMMERCE DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF FOREIGN TRADE Policy Circular No. 25(RE-2000)/2000-01 dt. 11/9/2000 ITC(HS) Code Compulsory on Shipping Bills w.e.f. 1/10/2000 Attention is invited to paragraph 4.1 of the EXIM Policy and S.No. 3 of Policy Circular No. 15(RE-99)/99-2000 dated 2/7/99 regarding mentioning of ITC (HS) code. It is reiterated that it is mandatory to mention 8 digit ITC (HS) code invariably in the shipping bill. Similarly, the 8 digit ITC (HS) code is to be filled in the application form while applying for licence to Directorate General of Foreign Trade. Though, the exports shall not be withheld by the Customs, where ITC (HS) code has not been mentioned, no export benefits shall accrue in such cases. However, with a view to assisting importers/exporters for identifying the code at 8 digit level, the following steps are being taken. (i) Database of ITC(HS) has been made available at the website of DGFT at http://www/nic.in/eximpol ( Also available from www.ieport.com) . They may access by punching the name of the item to ascertain the code.
