Mandatory of E-Payment of C. Excise duty by assessees, who have paid duty of Rs. 50 lakhs or more in the preceding financial year - reg - Service Tax - Trade Facility No. 5/2007Extract E-Payment of Service Tax Clarifications Trade Facility No. 5/2007 Dated 27-3-2007 Subject: Mandatory of E-Payment of C. Excise duty by assessees, who have paid duty of Rs. 50 lakhs or more in the preceding financial year - reg. Attention of the Trade and Industry is invited to Trade Notice No. 28/2005, issued under F. No. VGN(30)02/TA/05 dated 26-7-2005 regarding the e-Payment of Central Excise Service Tax. 2. Further, attention is also drawn to the amendment to Rule 8 of Central Excise Rules, 2002 vide Notification No. 08/2007-C.E.(N.T.) dated 1-3- 2007 , in the Finance Bill 2007 by which it has been made mandatory for all the assessees who have paid Excise duty of Rs. 50 lakhs or more in cash during the preceding financial year to deposit the duty electronically through Internet banking w.e.f. 1-4-2007. 3. The information and detail procedure for e-payment is enumerated below - A. E-Payment of Central Excise and Service Tax E-Payment is a mode of payment in addition to the conventional methods of payment offered by the banks under specific security norms of Reserve Bank of India. This scheme facilitates anytime, anywhere payment and an instant cyber receipt is generated once the transaction is complete. It provides the convenience of making online payment of Central Excise and Service Tax through Bank's Internet banking service. B. The facility is available to Registered Central Excise/Service Tax Assessee who possesses the 15 digit PAN based Assessee Code. Customer of any authorized bank which provide e-payment solution. Customers having Banks' Internet banking ID. Customers who have given the option for effecting Central Excise/Service Tax payment through the Internet with the authorized bank. C. Time of Payment This is a 24x7 facility. All payments effected up to 8 p.m. will be accounted for the day as that day's receipt. Payments effected after 8 p.m. will be accounted as the next working day's receipt. D. Procedure for Payment Customer should log-on to the bank's Internet site after entering the User Id and Password provided to them by the bank. They should fill the on-line Challan. The customer should select the appropriate tax type from the pop up menu and enter the tax amount. Thereafter the Challan should be submitted electronically. The customer has to thereafter enter his User Id and Password to enter in the secured e-banking area. Customer should select an account for debiting the total tax amount. Authorize the payment. E. Challans are Receipts Cyber receipt with transaction number of the bank becomes available immediately. On the next working day, two copies of Challans duly signed and stamped are made available to the taxpayer at the given address by the bank; one for the tax return and one for their records. F. Advantages to the customers Ease of operation and convenience. Facility is available 24x7. No queue and waiting. On line filling of single Challan. Minimum fields of the Challan need to be filled. Most of the fields are populated automatically. Selection of tax type is from drop-down menu. Instant Cyber receipt with banks transaction number becomes available. Receipted copy of the Challans gets delivered at the customer's address. 4.
