Service Tax on services rendered by Goods Transport Operators - Service Tax - Trade Notice No. 282/79/97 - Nagpur

Attention of the trade is invited towards the Commissionerate Trade Notice No. 273/70/97, dated 12-11-1997 regarding imposition of Service Tax on Goods Transport Operators. It has been decided by the Government not to realise for the present the service tax from the traders whose turnover exceeded ₹ 50 lakhs in preceding financial year. It may however be noted that there is no change in the transport service tax to be paid by other categories of persons like factories registered under the Factories Act, Companies etc. The other categories of persons will continue to pay the Service Tax as usual.
