Instruction To Avoid Overloading Of Vehicles - Customs - 13/2014Extract MINISTRY OF FINANCE DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF CUSTOMS CUSTOM HOUSE, NEW HARBOUR ESTATE, TUTICORIN - 628 004 Dated 24.07.2014 PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 13/2014 The District Collector cum Regional Transport Authority of Tuticorin has (Vide his D.O. Lr. No. 52688/B1/2013 dated 21.07.2014) expressed concern regarding overloading of goods Vehicles in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. He also explained that the Hon'ble Supreme Court in its judgment in W.P. (Civil) No. 136/2003 emphasized that the provisions of law to curb the practice of overloading should be strictly enforced. 2. All exporters are advised not to overload the vehicles carrying their export cargo to the ICD/CFS from their premises. 3. All containers from Tuticorin Port to ICD/CFS and from ICD/CFS to Tuticorin Port move under a bond executed by the Custodians of the ICD/CFS. Bulk goods such as coal, ore and timber are transported from the port by importers. All custodians of ICD and CFS and importers should ensure that they do not load the vehicles beyond the permissible weight mentioned in the Registration Certificates of the vehicles. 4. Traffic Manager, V.O.C. Port Trust is requested to ensure that vehicles are not loaded beyond the permissible weight mentioned in the Registration Certificate of the vehicles before allowing them vehicles to move out of the port so that the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act are not violated.
