Verification of genuineness of Shipping Bills and Bills of Entry received from various departments reg. - Customs - 26/2007Extract OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF CUSTOMS (EXPORT) JAWAHARLAL NEHRU CUSTOM HOUSE, NHAVA SHEVA URAN, DIST : RAIGAD, MAHARASHTRA 400707 F. No. SG/Misc-426/2007 SIIB (X) Date : 07.06.2007 PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 26/2007 Sub: Verification of genuineness of Shipping Bills and Bills of Entry received from various departments reg. Attention of all Importers, Exporters, CHAs and Members of Trade is invited to the processing of requests/applications for verification of genuineness of Shipping Bills and Bills of Entry. This Custom House is getting requests for verification of genuineness of Shipping Bills and Bills of Entry with the Export General Manifest and Import General Manifest which are filed with the Manifest Clearance Department subsequent to exportation and importation of goods. This verification is required for sanction of rebate/refund claims by the Central Excise Commissionerate. This process is subject to statutory time limits. The present practice of verification of Shipping Bills and Bills of Entry is to route them through SIIB. However, the actual work of verification is being done under the control and supervision of the Manifest Clearance Department. The process of routing via SIIB is only increasing two steps as no separate verification is done by SIIB. This delays the process which at times is very crucial to the investigating/rebate sanctioning authorities. It has, therefore been decided that the work relating to verification of genuineness of Shipping Bills and Bills of Entry shall be directly handled by the Manifest Clearance Deptt., which shall act as the Nodal Agency for the purpose. Any difficulty faced by the trade in this regard may be brought to the notice of the department. ( SANJEEV BEHARI) Commissioner of Customs (Exports)
