Abolition of Mate Receipt - Customs - PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 08/2017Extract GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF FINANCE, DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF CUSTOMS CUSTOM HOUSE, WILLINGDON ISLAND, COCHIN-682009 F.No.C1/05/2017- TU. Cus. Dated: 28 June 2017 PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 08/2017 Subject: Abolition of Mate Receipt - regarding. Kind attention of exporters, importers, Customs Brokers, Steamer agents and all other stakeholders is drawn to the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) Circular No.56/2016-Customs dated 24.11.2016 on the above subject. 2. The Board has observed that the Mate's receipt has been hitherto used to serve multifarious purposes - mainly to ensure that the export container is loaded on the vessel. However, since the advent of automation of Customs procedures and the message exchange system, the manual Issuance of mate receipt in the case of containerised cargo has become redundant. Moreover, the disbursal of drawback is only done after the EGM has been filed at the gateway port. In view of the changes in business workflow, the Board finds that there is no longer a need to issue Mate's receipt. 3. The Board has therefore decided that Customs Houses should no more insist for issuance of Mate's receipt in the case of containerised cargo. In respect of non-containerised cargo export cargo like bulk cargo, etc The practice of issuing Mate's receipt would continue. 4. This is issued for the information of the general public and all the stakeholders. (S. Anil Kumar) Additional Commissioner of Customs
