Reference is invited to CBEC Circular No.51/1999 Cus dated 12.8.1999 wherein it was permitted to carry Indian Currency Notes of denomination up to ₹ 100/- for disbursement of wages to the crew of the foreign going ships etc. In this connection attention of all stake holders is invited to CBEC Circular No 7/2016 - Cus. dated 7.3.2016 regarding instruction on Indian currency notes. As the revised guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India has not prescribed any restriction on the denomination of Indian currency that can be carried by an Indian traveler or Captain of a foreign going Ship, it has now been decided to withdraw the restriction on denomination of Indian currency imposed vide earlier Circular No.51/1999 dated 12/8/1999.
