I am directed to say that doubt has arisen as to whether 'cleaning compound' used to clean the moulds before and after the use of moulds in the manufacture of diodes, transistors and similar conductor devices, may be treated as 'input' and Modvat credit allowed thereon. 2. The matter has been examined by the Board. Since mould itself is not an 'input', being equipment in nature and is not eligible for Modvat credit the compound used to clean it cannot be treated as 'input' and the same would not be eligible for availment of Modvat credit. 3. Field formations and trade interests may be informed suitably. 4. Receipt of this letter may please be acknowledged.
