I am directed to invite your attention to the minutes on Point No. 30 of the monthly Modvat meeting held on 22-4-1989 at Bombay regarding disallowance of Modvat credit on various types of catalysts used in the manufacture of final products. It is observed that catalysts are used in the process of manufacture of final products for the purposes of stepping up the reactions. These are indispensable inputs for the manufacture of final products though they do not become part of the final products. Since catalysts are actually used in the manufacturing process, it has been decided to allow credit of duties paid on such catalysts for being utilised for payment of duties on final products.
