Service Tax Formation of Special Service Tax Cell in all the divisional offices Trade Notice No. 43/2001-(Service Tax/04/2001), dated 25-6-2001 of the Mumbai-II Commissionerate Subject : Service Tax - Formation of Service Tax Unit at divisional offices - reg. Trade is hereby notified for the information of the traders, service providers and others concerned that a Special Service Tax Cell will be functioning from 1st July, 2001 in all the Divisional Offices to exclusively attend to service tax matters. The service tax cell will be headed by a Superintendent under the supervision of the Divisional Deputy Commissioner/Assistant Commissioner. This service tax cell will deal with all matters connected with the levy and collection of service tax administered by this Commissionerate, covering the following : (i) Registration of new assessees. (ii) Receipt and scrutiny of service tax returns. (iii) Follow up action in respect of payment/non-payment of service tax. All the existing service tax assessees/prospective assessees are hereby requested to correspond with the service tax cell at the concerned Divisional office with effect from 1-7-2001. All returns and statements on service tax may also be sent to the concerned divisional offices only. The prospective service tax assessees are also advised to contact the service tax cell at the Divisional Offices for guidance/assistance/compliance on service tax procedure and allied matters.
