Allotment of PANs. - Income Tax - 1604/CBDT

INSTRUCTION NO. 1604/CBDT Dated: February 21, 1985 Attention is invited to Board's Instruction No.1453 (F.No.228/28/81/ITA.II dated the 2nd February, 1982) on the above subject where it was stressed that the assessing authorities should allot permanent Account Nos. to all the assessees who were then enrolled on the register of the Department whether they apply for it or not. This work was required to be completed by 28-2-1982. It was further desired that in future permanent Account nos. should be allotted to assessees within one month of the date of filing of the first return or the date on which he is enrolled on the register. Inspite of these instructions, this work is in arrears. 2. Chief Commissioner(Admn)/Commissioner of Income-tax incharge of Administration should complete the work of allotment of Permanent Account Nos. 3. Compliance report in respect of existing assessees must be sent to the Board by 30-4-1985 positively.
