Faceless Assessment scheme – Introduction - Income Tax - Ready Reckoner - Income TaxExtract Faceless Assessment scheme Introduction The Faceless Assessment Scheme is one of the biggest Direct Tax Reforms in India based on key principles of Efficiency, Transparency and Accountability. The Faceless Assessment Scheme that was launched by the Indian Government on the 7th of October (2019) is a huge step forward in the direction of achieving a more digitally and technically empowered functionality of the government authorities and department. The Faceless Appeal Scheme has been notified in continuation of this scheme on 25th September (2020). The Faceless Assessment Scheme, 2020 has been launched by the Income-Tax Department to eliminate the interface between the Assessing Officer and the Assessee during the Faceless Assessment Procedure. Section 143(3A) of Faceless Income-Tax Assessment was introduced by the Finance Act, 2018 where Central Government was enabled to empower the new assessment procedure with new technology and minimum human interface. The Faceless Assessment Scheme aims to abolish territorial jurisdiction. The Faceless Assessment Scheme aims to eliminate human interface resultant corruption. Faceless Assessment will offer functional specialization in specific parts of the assessment with the assistance of specialized units. The Faceless Assessment Scheme is applicable with effect from 1st April 2021.
