Tariff Item 25 - Exemption to castings of iron, not otherwise specified

Whereas the Central Government is satisfied that according to a practice that was generally prevalent regarding levy of duty of excise (including non-levy thereof) under section 3 of the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), the duty of excise on castings of iron, not otherwise specified, falling under sub-item 16(i) of Item 25 of the First Schedule to the said Act as it existed prior to the 28th February, 1986, when made from waste and scrap of steel, falling under sub-item 3(ii) of Item 25 of the said First Schedule, was not being levied during the period commencing on the 1st August, 1983 and ending with the 29th February, 1984;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 11C of the said Act, the Central Government hereby directs that the whole of the duty of excise payable under section 3 of the said Act and the special duties of excise payable under sub-section (1) of section 52 of the Finance Act, 1984 (21 of 1984) on such castings of iron, but for the said practice, shall not be required to be paid in respect of such castings of iron on which the said duty of excise and the said special duties of excise, were not levied during the period aforesaid, in accordance with the said practice.
