Specified Goods Imported by Fire Services Notification No. 285/92-Cus. Dated 7-10-1992 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962) and in supersession of the notification of the Government of India, in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No. 62/87-Customs, dated the 1st March, 1987, the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts the goods specified in column (2) of the table hereto annexed, when imported into India by the Fire Services administered by the Central Government or the Government of any State or the administration of any Union Territory or a local body for fire fighting operations, from - (a) the whole of the duty of customs leviable thereon, which is specified in the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975); (b) the whole of the additional duty leviable thereon under section 3 of the said Customs Tariff Act, subject to the condition that the importer, at the time of clearance, produces a certificate from an officer not below the rank of a Deputy Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs that the goods are required for fire fighting by any of the aforesaid bodies and recommends grant of the concession.
