Effective rates of duty on specified goods falling within Chapter 84 or 90 Notification No. 216/90-Cus. Dated 26-7-1990 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts goods of the description specified in the Table below and falling within Chapter 84 or 90 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975), when imported into India for use in printing industry, from, - (i) so much of that portion of the duty of customs leviable thereon which is specified in the said First Schedule as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate of 35% ad valorem ; and (ii) the whole of the additional duty leviable thereon under section 3 of the said Customs Tariff Act; subject to the condition that, at the time of clearance of the goods, the importer produces before the Assistant Collector of Customs a certificate issued by an officer not below the rank of the Industrial Adviser or Additional Industrial Adviser in the Directorate General of Technical Development of the Government of India or by an officer not below the rank of a Joint Director or Joint Commissioner of Industry specifically authorised by the Director or Commissioner of Industries of the State Government concerned in the case of units which are classified as falling in the small scale sector, recommending grant of the aforesaid exemption. Photo-composing/photo-typesetting system including its ancillaries and related keyboards, editing terminals, film/paper processing unit and laser/CRT output device when imported as a complete system, the quantity of the keyboards and editing terminals to be restricted to maximum 4 Nos. Minimum resolution of output device 1200 dots/inch and cost of the complete system should not be less than Rs. 5 lakhs.
