Amendments in the Central Excise Rules, 1944 Notification No. 52/99-CE(NT) Dated 13th August, 1999 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 read with sub-section (3) of section 3A of the Central Excise Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Excise Rules, 1944, namely:- 1. (1) These rules may be called the Central Excise (Sixteenth Amendment) Rules, 1999 (2) They shall come into force on the 13th day of August, 1999. 2. In the Central Excise Rules, 1944, in rule 96ZQ, in sub-rule(5), for clause (ii), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:- ""(ii) a penalty equal to an amount of duty outstanding from him at the end of such month of rupees five thousand, whichever is greater."".
