Can a member not holding COP do trading in commodity, F&O?

Of course - why not.Only member in practice is not allowed to indulge in other activities. However with permission he can be a director in any company.

I think you should approach to ICAI, institute of chartered accountants of India and ask for a clarification. Since from practical point of view, many practicing chartered accountants are engaged in trading of shares, I doubt that they have obtained any permission for ICAI, but how they are are working, you need to consult with them only in your circle. As such engagement in any trading or business other than professional activities is banned.
