1993 (12) TMI 99 - AT - Income Tax

The rejection of the claim was deemed unjustified, and the Tribunal directed the allowance of the standard deduction to the assessee under section 16(1) of the Income-tax Act.

4. Ultimately, the Tribunal allowed the assessee's appeal, emphasizing the statutory obligation to grant deductions entitled to the assessee under the law, regardless of whether they were claimed in the return.
