Changes in the Central Excise Eight digit tariff entries to accommodate fresh classification codes - Regarding. - Central Excise - F. No. 4/2/2008-CX. (1)Extract Instruction Government of India Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) Central Board of Excise Customs, New Delhi dated 21-5-2010 Subject : Changes in the Central Excise Eight digit tariff entries to accommodate fresh classification codes - Regarding. The Customs Tariff at 8 digit level has been adopted by Department of Commerce, DGFT for ITC (HS) classification since 2003. In order to ensure that Customs Tariff is kept upto date in the light of change in technology and patterns of International Trade, suggestions for addition or deletion of tariff entries by the user Departments and industry are studied by an Inter-ministerial committee under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary (Customs) with members of all users agencies. Based on the outcome of the study, changes in the tariff entries relating to handlooms, coir products, chemicals as suggested by various agencies have been carried out in the Customs Tariff vide Notification 109/2008-Customs (N.T.) dated 24-9-2008. 2. In view of the above changes in the tariff entries of the first schedule of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 corresponding changes in the schedule to Central Excise Tariff Act, 1985 have been carried out to maintain uniformity in classification of the above said goods, vide Notification No. 23/2010-C.E. (N.T.), dated 20th May, 2010. 3. The said Notification has been uploaded on the website www.cbec.gov.in. The above changes are technical in nature and do not involve any change in the existing rate of duty. You may like to bring the same into the knowledge of the field formations and the trade. [F.
