Chief Controller of accounts, CBEC has reported that in most of the TR-6 Challans, the 15 digit assessee code (Central Excise Registration No.) given by the taxpayers on the Challans is not correct, even the format of TR-6 Challans used by the assessee is outdated and in not in the correct format. It is therefore emphasized that all the assessees should use the correct format of TR-6 Challans for making payments of Excise duty and Service Tax and fill their correct 15 digit assessee code in the TR-6 Challans. The authorized banks are also being provided a complete list of the assessees 15-digit code for verification by them while accepting the TR-6 Challans. All members of the Trade and Industry are requested to give wide publicity to this trade notice so that the assessee does not make any error in future while filling in the assessee codes in the TR-6 challan so that no inconvenience is caused to them in making payment of the Central Excise Tax Revenue.
