Guidelines regarding processing of Import documents under EDI - Customs - PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 33/2007.Extract GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF FINANCE OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF CUSTOMS CUSTOM HOUSE, NO.33 RAJAJI SALAI, CHENNAI - 600 001 S.Misc.18/2007-System Unit Date: 09.03.2007 PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 33/2007. Sub: Guidelines regarding processing of Import documents under EDI. Attention of Importers/Exporters, Custom House Agents and all concerned is invited to Public Notice 242/98 dated 08.12.1998 regarding processing of Import documents under EDI and Public Notice 85/2001 dated 01.05.2001 and 87/2001 dated 11.05.2001 regarding assessment of Imports against Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB) under ICES (Imports) and amendment thereof. Further, attention is invited to Board s Circular 11/2007 dated 13th February 2007 regarding dispensing with Verification of DEPBs at EDI ports in the light of Electronic Transmission of Shipping Bills and DEPBs. 2. In pursuance of Board s Circular No.11/2007 dated 13th February, 2007 issued from F.No.605/210/2005-DBK and in order to facilitate the trade, a procedure for online transmission of shipping bills to DGFT as well as DEPBs from DGFT has been put in place at Chennai Custom House. As per this procedure, the DEPBs issued by DGFT would now be received online by Customs. Such DEPBs would be subjected to the prescribed validation checks online and thereafter, the same would be available for use by the importers. Details of such DEPBs would also be available on the home page of website, http://www.icegate.gov.in/. However, as a purely temporary measure till the procedure gets stabilised, it has been decided that the importers would be required to produce the hard copies of the DEPBs issued by DGFT to the officer designated by Asst./Dy. Commissioner (DEPB) before such DEPBs are allowed to be utilised. 3. It has been further decided that henceforth, in respect of the DEPBs received online, the DEPB number would need to be mentioned on the bill of entry if such DEPBs are intended to be used for payment of duty instead of the registration number as is the practice with respect to manually verified DEPBs. 4. The above procedure would be applicable in respect of DEPBs issued on or after 12th March, 2007 by DGFT. The procedure as prescribed in above Public Notice No. 85/2001 dated 01.05.2001 would continue to be followed in case of DEPBs issued before 12th March, 2007. 5. Difficulties, if any, may be brought to the notice of the Addl. Commissioner (Systems), of this Custom House. Sd/- (MADHU MOHAN DAMODHAR) COMMISSIONER OF CUSTOMS SEA PORT (IMPORT GENERAL)
