The attention of the Importers, Exporters, General Trade, shipping lines/shipping agents, Customs brokers, CFSs, ICDs, CWC and all other stakeholders is invited to the provisions of Section 49 of Customs Act,1962 wherein it is provided as follows: Where.- (a) In the case of any imported goods, whether dutiable or not, entered for home consumption, the Assistant Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Customs is satisfied on the application of the importer that the goods cannot be cleared within the reasonable time; (b) In the case of any imported dutiable goods ,entered for warehousing, the Assistant Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Customs is satisfied on the application of importer that the goods cannot be removed for deposit in warehouse within reasonable time; The goods may pending clearance or removal, as the case may be, be permitted to be stored in a public warehouse for a period not exceeding thirty days. 2. In the present period of crisis, if any importers who have filed the Bill of Entry but not in position to clear the cargo may avail this option to avoid container damage and custodian charges and move cargo temporarily to a Public Warehouse which reportedly has enough space for an initial period of 30 days which may be extended another 30 days. 3.
