Scanning of containers - Procedure for ODS containers Public Notice No. 47/2009 Dated 29-7-2009 The instructions vide Public Notice No. 40/2009 dated 25-6-09 [2009 (239) E.L.T. T27] were issued regarding scanning of containers passing through gateway port, Nhava Sheva. In this regard issues have been raised by the trade wherein observance of procedures, as prescribed, is causing undue hardship. 2. One of the issues raised is regarding procedure for Over Dimensional Containers (ODC). To address the concern of trade, the following revised procedure would apply in respect of ODC containers selected for scanning, but scanning is not feasible on account of their dimension; i. Such container may be taken directly to the respective CFS without scanning. The Gate PO posted at the respective CFS will endorse the EIR copy of said container as 'ODC-Not Scanned'. Copy of this EIR, duly endorsed by the gate PO would be presented to Container Scanning Division for obtaining NOC. ii. However, if the ODC container is brought to the earmarked scanner location and endorsed with 'NOT SCANNED due to...', by the officer posted at scanner location, the same can be cleared by docks examining officers as per rules. No separate NOC from CSD would be required from CSD in such cases. 3. Another issue raised is regarding containers that are selected for scanning but could not scanned due to malfunctioning of scanner or any other reason and are marked 'NOT SCANNED due to....' on the reverse of EIR by CSD officers. In such cases, containers can be examined by docks officers posted at concerned CFSs under the supervision of AC/DC docks. NOC from CSD would not be required whenever the container is examined by the docks staff. However, in cases where any misdeclaration is detected in docks examination, the same would be communicated by the AC/DC docks to Container Scanning Division. 4. The Public Notice 40/2009 dated 25-6-2009 stands modified to this extent. 5. The contents of the Public Notice should be brought to the notice of all the concerned.
