INSTRUCTiON NO. 1173/CBDT Dated : May 8, 1978 Section(s) Referred: 143(1) Statute: Income - Tax Act, 1961 The board have decided that the summary assessment scheme as re-designed vide Instruction No.1072 dated 1-7-77 would continue to be applicable to the current and arrear assessments to be completed during the financial year 1978-79. 2. Attention is invited to para 15 and Annexure V of Board's Instruction No.1072 referred to above wherein procedure for selecting cases for sample scrutiny was laid down. As stated therein, the cases have to be selected before making the assessments. In other words, it is a pre-assessment scrutiny of a certain percentage of cases falling under the summary assessment scheme. The mode of selection of such cases is, however with reference to the summary assessments completed and entered in the D CR of the preceding year. As stated in para 5 of Annexure V, the cases for pre-assessment scrutiny are to be selected by the IAC for the various ITOs working in his range in the month of August in every financial year.
