Disposal of applications for recognition of provident funds. - Income Tax - 1553/CBDT

INSTRUCTION NO. 1553/CBDT Dated: February 17, 1984 Attention is invited to Board's Instruction No.1190 (F.No.216/6/78-ITA.II) dated the 28th June, 1978, wherein it was impressed upon the Commissioners that the applications for recognition to Provident Funds should be disposed of within three months of the receipt. The Board regret to note that these Instructions are not being followed by the Commissioners of Income-tax. There is a large pendency of applications which are pending for over one year. The Public Accounts Committee has adversely commented on this heavy pendency. 2. I am, therefore, directed to request you that all pending applications be reviewed and suitable action taken. 3. The Board further reiterate that all applications received in the Commissioner's Office for the recognition of a Provident Fund may be disposed of within a period of three months of its receipt as already laid down in Board's Instruction No. 1190 (F.No.216/6/78-ITA.II) dated the 28th June, 1978.
