FAQs on Income from house property |

I own two houses. One is a farmhouse that I visit on weekends and the other is in the city that I use on weekdays. Is it correct to treat both these residences as self occupied? |
Ans. No, for the purpose of Income-tax Law you can claim only one property as self occupied property and other property will be deemed to be let-out property.upto Assessment year 2019-20. However, w.e.f. Assessment 2020-21, a person can claim two properties as self-occupied house properties subject to certain conditions. Thus, from Assessment Year 2020-21 onwards only, both the houses can be treated as self-occupied properties subject to fulfilment of specified conditions. |
