C. Ex. [Eighth Amendment] Rules, 1989

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 of the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Excise Rules, 1944, namely :-

(1) These rules may be called the Central Excise (Eighth Amendment) Rules, 1989.

(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

2. In the Central Excise Rules, 1944, in rule 173H, in sub-rule (1), after the existing proviso, the following proviso shall be inserted, namely :-

"Provided further that the Principal Collector of Central Excise may, on a representation being made to him, if he is of opinion that having regard to the circumstances of the case, it is necessary so to do, he may, by order, for reasons to be recorded in writing, extend the period specified in the first proviso to such extent as he may consider necessary."
