Supersedes Notification No. 57/87-Cus. [ Ch. 72] Notification No. 307/88-Cus. Dated 25-11-1988 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), and in supersession of the notification of Government of India in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, No. 57/87-Customs, dated the 1st March, 1987, the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts iron and non-alloy steel products containing less than 0.6% of carbon in the forms described in column (2) of the Table below and falling within Chapter 72 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975) when imported into India, from so much of that portion of the duty of Customs leviable thereon which is specified in the said First Schedule as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate specified in the corresponding entry in column (3) of the said Table. Tinfree coated steel sheets 100 per cent ad valorem : Provided that the exemption contained in this notification shall not apply to the following sheets and plates, in coils or otherwise namely :- (a) galvanized iron or steel sheets and plates; (b) painted steel sheets and plates; (c) zinc alloy coated steel sheets and plates; (d) aluminium alloy coated steel sheets and plates; (e) colour coated steel sheets and plates; (f) lacquer coated steel sheets and plates; (g) plastic coated steel sheets and plates. Explanation :- For the purpose of this notification, the expression "sheets and plates" means rolled products (other than coils for re-rolling) of any thickness and if in rectangles of a width exceeding 500 millimetres.
