Exemption from additional duty in respect of certain raw materials for use in specified industries - 020/88 - Customs -TariffExtract Exemption from additional duty in respect of certain raw materials for use in specified industries Notification No. 20/88-Cus. Dated 1-3-1988 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts the goods specified in column (2) of the Table hereto annexed and for use in the industry specified in the corresponding entry of column (3) of the said Table when imported into India, from - (a) so much of that portion of the duty of customs which is specified in the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975) as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate of 25 per cent ad valorem ; and (b) the whole of the additional duty of customs leviable thereon under section 3 of the said Customs Tariff Act; subject to the following conditions, namely :- (i) An officer not below the rank of Additional Industrial Adviser of the Directorate General of Technical Development in the Ministry of Industry of the Government of India certifies in each case that the goods imported are for use in the industry which is specified against such goods in column (3) of the said Table and also indicates the quantity required in each case. (ii) The importer furnishes an undertaking to the effect that the said imported goods shall be used for the purpose specified in the notification. (iii) The importer shall pay on demand, in the event of his failure to comply with (ii) above, an amount equal to the difference between the duty leviable on such quantity of the said imported goods but for the exemption contained herein and that already paid at the time of importation. Power generation equipment comprising of boilers, turbines, generators and their auxiliaries such as condensers, heat exchangers, coal mill, electrostatic precipitators, instrumentation and control systems; and electrical machinery comprising of electrical motors, transformers and HT circuit breakers. 2. Special copper alloy sections 3. Composite insulation made out of polyester film glass, armamides (Nomex), polymide (kapton) or mice in any combination with bonding material. 4. Insulation resins and varnishes based on epoxy, silicone or polyester and hardeners, catalysts and diluents. 5. Woven or non-woven insulation materials based on polyester glass, armamide (nomex), polymide (kapton) or asbestos, plain or treated with suitable varnish or resin. 6. Insulation kraftpaper (Plain or creped), kraft paper board, nomex board plain or treated with suitable resin. (ii) Metglass, amorphous boron/silicon alloy electrical steel sheets Electrical machinery comprising of electrical motors, transformers and switchgear. (iii) Clad plates (ferrous) Selected industrial machinery comprising of metallurgical machinery, mining machinery, chemical machinery, sugar mill machinery, rubber machinery and food processing machinery.
