CBI Court sentences two accused including then Assistant Commissioner of Central Excise & Customs (retired IRS officer) and his wife to 03 years’ Imprisonment with total fine of Rs 2 lakh in a Disproportionate Assets case.

The Hon’ble Prl. Spl. Judge Court for CBI Cases, Visakhapatnam has sentenced 02 accused including Sri Rayabharapu Venkata Lakshmi (RVL) Narasimha Rao, then Assistant Commissioner of Central Excise & Customs (Retd. IRS: 2007), Kakinada, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh and his wife Smt. Rayabharapu Gowri Ratnam to 03 years’ Imprisonment with total fine of Rs. 2 lakh in a disproportionate assets case.

CBI had registered the instant case against the accused. It was alleged that during the check period from 01.07.2007 to 04.08.2011, the accused Sri R.V.L. Narasimha Rao, IRS, while working as a public servant with Department of Customs, was in possession of movable & immovable properties in his name and in the name of his wife, disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of approximately Rs.31.20 lakh (Percentage of DA: 71.81%) which he could not satisfactorily account for. Smt. R. Gowri Ratnam W/o Sri R.V.L. Narasimha Rao, by allowing her husband to acquire assets in her name beyond her pecuniary resources, abetted the commission of offence.

The Hon’ble Spl. Judge also ordered CBI to initiate appropriate proceedings for confiscation of the properties which is equal to the disproportionate assets of Rs. 27.57 lakh (approx.).
