The Central Board of Excise and Customs is proposing to formulate Handling of Cargo in Customs Areas Regulations, 2008 in exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (2) of Section 141 read with Section 157 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962). 2. These regulations are being framed on the basis of the recommendations of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) 2007-08. The scope of the regulations cover the manner in which imported or export goods may be received, stored, delivered, dispatched or otherwise handled in customs area and the responsibilities of the persons engaged in such activities. 3. The CBEC solicits views, comments and suggestions on the draft regulation from the trade and industry associations, departmental officers and from all other concerned.
