Shri. V.Sridhar, Member, Central Board of Excise Customs, while launching the software stated that this web enabled software will completely replace the current mode of manual filing of returns, payment of taxes, seeking refund / rebate of duties, obtaining various permissions approvals from the department by an electronic interface. The new software enables a taxpayer to obtain registration under Central Excise/Service Tax online, to electronically file statutory returns, claims, Intimations etc and view track the status of their documents online. The software also has features to generate business related alerts messages. The ACES application launched today at Bangalore is one of the important steps taken in the Information Technology consolidation undertaken by the department. Shri. V. Sridhar, informed that the department proposes to connect all the Central Excise, Customs Service Tax offices across the country through a wide area network and provide linkages to other stake holders like custodians, banks, DGFT, Income Tax for validation online clearances. With the roll out of ACES, he hoped that the tax payers time and cost in complying with the tax provisions will come down drastically. It will also improve the efficiency of the department. He informed that LTU, Bangalore has been chosen to launch the software for the first time in the country considering the pro active co-operation extended by the large taxpayers in this jurisdiction and also the state of the art facilities available at LTU, Bangalore and skilled human resources. The ACES application is scheduled to be launched in other major centers such as Chennai, Coimbatore shortly. Smt. Lalitha John, Chief Commissioner, LTU, Bangalore, Shri.
