VIII/48/48/2012 Dated: 28/12/2012 PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 49/2012 Subject :- Customs Import of Marble Slabs-declaration of specification etc. - Reg. It is to be observed that different types and varieties of marble slabs like Perlato, Bottochino, Thassos, Staturio etc, are imported. The value of each type also differs depending upon the colour and other specifications. However, it is noticed that in many cases, the importers are not declaring aforesaid specifications such as type, color etc. of marble slabs in the import documents. 2. All the Importers/CHAs are hereby advised to furnish the proper description with complete specifications of Marble slabs mentioning specific type, design, color etc. in the import documents. The import consignments would be examined with reference to the specifications so declared. In case, goods of description other than the declared specification are found during examination, it would be treated as a case of 'mis-declaration' and necessary action would be initiated under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The consignments, where the complete description and specification etc. are not declared, shall be taken up for assessment/examination only after requisite declaration is made. 3. The declaration of correct description with complete specifications in Bills of Entry would also facilitate the collection, comparison and analysis of trade statistics (as required vide Additional Note No.3 to Customs and Central Excise Tariff Acts).
